A: I would recommend a hardwood mulch. Most colored mulches, whether they’re black, gold, red or brown, are all hardwood mulches. Remember, don’t be conservative when putting mulch around your trees and shrubs. Put down 3 to 4 inches of mulch to keep plants and trees cool, as well keep them weed-free.
